Company Press Release CardioMEMS, Inc. Announces First Patient Implant of Wireless Pressure Sensor for Heart Failure Monitoring in the United StatesAtlanta – December 21, 2006. CardioMEMS, Inc. today announced that its wireless pressure sensor for heart failure (HF) monitoring was successfully implanted in two patients at Oklahoma Heart Hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma under the direction of Philip Adamson, MD, Director of the Heart Failure Institute. The wireless HF sensor is a proprietary miniature device developed by CardioMEMS which is delivered to the patient’s pulmonary artery using a simple, catheter based procedure. The pulmonary artery pressure is then measured and displayed using the CardioMEMS proprietary electronic monitoring system. Following the procedure, measurements of the patients’ pulmonary artery pressure and cardiac output were taken and the pressure data was immediately transmitted wirelessly to a secure database and became available for review on the CardioMEMS proprietary website. In addition, the pressure waveform can be automatically sent and displayed on a PDA for remote viewing. According to Dr. Adamson “I was impressed by the ease of implantation of the sensor and use of the system. Heart failure is the primary cause of hospitalization in the US and I am hopeful that the information derived from the CardioMEMS system can help reduce the number of hospitalizations and improve the quality of life of these patients.” This is the first implant in the CardioMEMS US feasibility study for which Dr. Adamson is the co-Principal Investigator along with William Abraham, MD, Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at The Ohio State University Medical Center. It follows the recent expansion of the clinical trials being performed outside the United States which includes Dante Pazzanese Hospital in Sao Paolo, Brazil under the leadership of Alex Abizaid, MD and the Cardiovascular Center Frankfurt, Sankt Katharinen under the direction of Horst Sievert, MD. “We believe that this is the first wireless sensor implant for heart failure in the United States,” commented Jay Yadav, MD, Chairman and CEO of CardioMEMS, Inc. “We are very pleased to collaborate with Dr. Adamson and the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in the initiation of the US study of this transformational technology.
